MOI award ceremony 2014

MOI Awards Ceremony

The first round of MOI ended in 2013. Nearly all in the first intake of PhD students have finished their PhD successfully by now. Two of them were specifically honored during the graduation ceremony of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences in February 2014. Dr. Alida Schäkel and Dr. Tim Fechtner received the MOI prize for the best dissertations submitted by members of the Manchot Graduate School. Their theses provide very good examples of the fascinating research which has been done by the MOI Fellows.

Dr. Alida Schäkel worked on the AGC kinase network in Candida albicans. Her research has contributed to a deeper understanding of the regulatory role of the AGC kinases in C. albicans. Her supervisor was Prof. Joachim Ernst.

Dr. Tim Fechtner characterized the putative adhesins Yaa1, Yaa2 and Yaa3 of Chlamydia pneumoniae. His results are a milestone on the road to the first effective vaccine against chlamydial infections. His supervisor was Prof. Johannes H. Hegemann.
